During 15 days Villanueva de Alcardete represented to Spain through its Group `Despertar
el Ayer’ in the Expo of Taejón-93 (South Korea), inaugurated August 7th, 1993. Seguidillas,
rondeñas, jotas, fandangos and other typical dances of Villanueva gave their sound
of la Mancha to the Korean sample.
September 6th, 1993, a replica of the statue in homage to the father Gregorio de
Céspedes, Spanish Jesuit and first European visitor to Korea in the century XVI,
was put in the park of Pung-Ho of the city of Chinhae, in commemoration of the IV
centennial between Korea and Spain. To the act of inauguration of the symbolic statue
they attended the mayor of Villanueva de Alcardete, Miguel Ángel Sánchez-Beato Garrido,
together with a representative delegation and our group.
