SUNDAY OR STRIPED DRESS

The suit of the man, is the typical one of La Mancha and from Villanueva, is composed of wide shirt in white thread with neck of band and also extensive sleeves, on this the waistcoat simple with flap and the pants with pincers of black corduroy adorned with some buttons that close the opening of the exterior part of the leg, around this the typical wide belt in red color that is girded to the body leaving to hang an extreme by the thigh, the white socks of point penetrated and the black shoe of cordons.

The woman dress is native of the place, like its name indicates was utilized on Sundays and also in important festivities, it is composed of skirt with vertical striped very full hightlighting the green and red colors; the doublet or bodice of black velvet, with front on white lace edging. Currently a bodice in black brocade fabric has been compiled, with laces in neck and fists, on it the `pisto´ shawl is placed, the apron of black velvet with lace around and striped pocket of thread with different colors. This dress is completed cotton thread tights of horizontal lines with the same colors that the slip with black fund, black shoes of cordons, bun of `door handle´ or of `chestnut´ with black ribbon in both cases and the earrings of precious stones with necklace matching.
 

 

FULL DRESS

It is the most elegant suit which the alcardeteña couple from la Mancha wears, was used for the festivals, anniversaries and very special occasions by its elegance and sobriety.

In the woman, it is composed of a woollen cloth skirt that can be in red or yellow colour hollowed out by pleats in the upper part giving a very funny air, it carries some drawings embroidered in black thread with jewels and sequins, the adjusted doublet with velvet brocade fabric in black, adorned with pasamanería around, on top the apron of flat in black embroidered also with drawings in jewels and with dagger of lace, the pocket in black velvet and embroidered. The cotton threads tights with abotinados shoes with cordons. The hairstyle is composed bun of `door handle´ with the black tie of velvet, earrings and hanging of jewels in golden.

In the man, practically the suit does not change of the previous one, only to emphasize that the shirt for this suit carries some tucks in the chest, which symbolized the economic power of the epoch and the wide sleeves with folds in the fists, giving an air of elegance to the garment.

 

FARMWORKER DRESS OF LA MANCHA (17TH CENTURY)

The suit of the man was compiled of one of the sheets of the Ingenious Hidalgo. Quijote de la Mancha, at the same way, that of the woman imitates the clothing of the beautiful lady Dulcinea del Toboso. Is the representation of the suit of la Mancha from that epoch.

The suit of the man, is formed by dark brown coat to the waist by a belt of leather and sewn by a cord of colour ocre on white wide shirt of cotton; black pants of clothes peg collected under the knees by the gaiters, very usual for the tasks of the field, of the same colour that the coat, collected by a cordon to hold them and to adhere to the leg, that also they cover the black footwear.

The female suit is composed of a skirt of cloth with folds in the upper part and with a border to rhombus in the lower part concluded with a tape of covered and black color with an apron in black. In the upper part, wide white blouse with round neckline and concluded with lace edgings, on this tight sleeveless black bodice, trimmed of the same colour that the skirt; white cotton threads tights, and black shoe with ribbon to hold it. The characteristic hairstyle for the lady is round bun.

 

PILGRIMAGE DRESS

The Suit of Pilgrimage was used in the fields from La Mancha to attend the festivals celebrated in the country, in honour of some Saint or Virgin, specifically in Villanueva it is wearing for the pilgrimage of San Isidro in 15th May.

The suit of the man is composed of wide white shirt of band, on which, a checked shawl to the neck, typical for the tasks of the field is put and also they were put on the head to be protected of the sun; black pants collected under the knee for some ribbons to hold them, around this a girdle of blue colour and `abarcas´ as footwear, typical for the field tasks.

That of the woman is formed of a blouse of cotton with tucks in the front and done up with narrow laces edging in neck and sleeves, cover to the shoulders by a shawl or handkerchief that also utilized it on the head to be protected of the sun, the percale full skirt which is of black colour with diverse bunched, of fresh and fine fabric for the days of the hot summer; the apron of the same fabric that the handkerchief with embroidered in the peaks and with hemstitches. The footwear is of slippers with sole of esparto and white sailcloth tied by a tape of black cotton to the leg. The hairstyle for the lady is round bun with surrounded by a plait.
